Tatsu Gi Kai was formed in 1990, based out of the Rotorua Aikido Dojo.  We are a not-for-profit incorporated society, established to bring together our branch dojo's in New Zealand and  Australia, in the spirit of training and sharing of Aikido.

Our style is unique in New Zealand and builds on the foundations of Aikido founded in Japan by Morihei Ueshiba, universally known as O-Sensei (or great teacher) whose physical techniques and philosophical ideals are the inspiration for the spread of Aikido throughout the world, as a means of peaceful conflict resolution - the Way of Harmony.

The structure of our syllabus provides a framework for our student to learn and understand Aikido concepts through regular practice in the dojo.

Our chief instructor is Sensei Dianne Haynes who started Aikido in 1976 and was most recently awarded her 6th Dan (Rokudan) black belt in 2021.

All member dojo are affiliated to the California Aikido Association (CAA), an officially recognised organisation by the Aikikai Foundation, Hombu Dojo, Tokyo,  Japan.
