Ron Russell Sensei 1932-1994Ron sensei originally started training in Judo and became all British judo champion, and then did a little aikido under Kenshiro Abbe Sensei. Abbe Sensei  was a direct student of O-Sensei and the first  to teach Aikido in the UK. Ron found Aikido fascinating and continued learning aikido from Haydn Foster Sensei at the Hut Dojo in Uxbridge, South London; the Hut has been continuously providing training in Aikido since the 1950’s. Ron sensei attained his Shodan in 1978 and emigrated to NZ that year where he settled in Papatoetoe, and trained at Onehunga dojo. His unique style was the original practise of forms and techniques, that Tatsu Gi Kai still trains in today. He continued to train, went back to the UK for his gradings, and at the time of his death, was Yondan. His Aikido was powerful and passionate, and it was a great loss to us all when he suddenly passed away in Auckland.  This article was written in the 1980`s.
